Cross Seas

Waves built up by far away depressions sometimes collide with local waves. This may cause big waves to 'break'. Oils and Sou'wester on and careful stearing are then demanded!

Alfred Noyes (poet)

The english poet Alfred Noyes wrote an epic mpoem honouring sir Francis Drake (1540-1596). It was published in two parts. This fragment on the beauty of the sea is from the second book published in 1908.

The illustration is from a linocut, in two colours. The romance of the sea is of all ages.
